Prime Minister Boris Johnson has tested positive for coronavirus and is self-isolating in Downing Street.

He said he had experienced mild symptoms over the past 24 hours, including a temperature and cough, but would continue to lead the government.

England’s Health Secretary Matt Hancock said he had also tested positive while England’s Chief Medical Officer, Prof Chris Whitty, has shown symptoms.

Another 181 people died with the virus in the past day, figures showed.

It takes the total number of UK deaths to 759, with 14,543 confirmed cases.

  12. The UK government and the Irish government are to blame for the virus coming to our islands. The dumb ass UK government goes over to China and brings home people from an infected area and then wonder why the virus got on their land. Same with the our (Irish Government) they could have shut the airports and totally stopped all travel coming into the country, but no they waited till it was too late, now its here and it's all over the place.

  15. Suggestion

    Historically, since epidemics are cyclic, a Nature's way to clean up, almost with a span of a century, it is imperative, the world should go lockdown simultaneously, a decade or so, before the pollution measuring meter hits the even yellow line, for a week or so to ward off the epidemics before hand.

But the British people have to pay for this disaster and this time the country is ruined and can not recover because Britain is free, independent but isolated, and can take back control of own country to class the borders but Boris can even not close the borders to protect the people – the EU can close the borders without problems. My advice_ Join the EU again

  29. BBC cherry picking countries for examples to bash the government. If you study what other countries are doing fully ,you will understand the UK government is doing a much better job than you think. I felt this report was childish beyond belief. The BBC no longer represents the average Brit. They make me a life time liberal feel I am extreme right. No wonder more Brits tune into Sky Australia.

You impose the laws regarding coronavirus restrictions on the public and then you make it an offence to break these laws…..you then go and break these laws yourself….have you not committed an offence? probably not because you are above the law and you are protected by your position.
