The Captain returns! Patrick Stewart, who is reprising his role as one of the greatest TV characters of all time in “Star Trek: Picard” on CBS All Access, is a big advocate for Pit Bull Terriers and specifically requested that Picard’s dog in the new series be a Pit Bull. #Colbert #PatrickStewart #StarTrek

  1. I am so excited. Next Generation was amazing. The first episode of Picard was fantastic. Now I have Picard and Discovery to watch!

  2. Well that was fucking short!
@1:51 he really shows his giddiness at Sir Stewart revealing he's a Trekkie, but it could be fake just to pander to him but then @2:10 he literally said "Number one" without any prompting and so had verified it: Colbert is a real Trekkie!
I wish I could help give stewart back his voice, since visually he looks like 90% the same. Altho I think his voice only lost 25% of it's power, so not much loss. Still a great fantastic actor

  3. I love the fact that despite the air of dignity and stoicism he projects in most of his roles in real life Patrick Stewart is a huge goofball

  4. oooh i bet the pitbull people out there are jumping for joy for some validation. I'll still pass on that breed. Dalmatians are my dangerous breed of choice lol

  5. Pit bulls make up 6.5% of the dogs in the US. Between 2005 and 2017, Pit bulls were responsible for 66% of all dog attacks leading to fatalities in the US, %35 of attacks against family members or owners, their bites resulted in more severe injury or death, and they are the breed with the highest count of children, infant, and toddler fatalities in dog attacks.. From an overview of 18 dog-bite studies in the US, "pit bulls inflicted a higher prevalence and severity of injuries compared with other breeds". In the last ten years (2009-2019), pit bulls have killed or maimed 3,569 people, and have killed 236 infants and toddlers since 1980. Of all breeds, pit bulls are responsible for the highest percentage and highest number of attacks, the highest occurrence of attacking family members, and more children are mauled or killed by pit bulls than by any other breed of dog by a long shot.

I love Patrick Stewart, but his personal experience with these animals has no bearing on the totality of their aggressive tendencies. These were dogs bred for strength, aggression, and brutality, over hundreds of generations. That's not gonna go away with "understanding", it's what they were genetically designed to be. By all means, own and love pit bulls–but don't kid yourself that they're all sweet, misunderstood critters. They have a genetic predisposition to explosive and catastrophic injury and death, and if you own one and do not understand and are not prepared for such eventualities, you're just as bad an owner as the fools making dogs fight each other for sport.
